European Investment Bank

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the European Union's bank which is the only bank owned by and representing the interests of the European Union Member States. They work closely with other EU institutions to implement EU policies and is the world’s largest multilateral borrower and lender. It provides finance and expertise for sustainable investment projects that contribute to EU policy objectives. More than 90% of EU’s activity is in Europe, but they are also a big investor around the world. The bank provides financing through loans, microfinance, equity investments, etc. 

The first loan from EIB to the Maldives was in 2006 for the Post Tsunami Line of Credit. Since then, the bank has extended financing for another project, in 2016, for the Sustainable Energy Development of Maldives.
