ECONOMIC AFFAIRS & POLICY PLANNING

Introduction

The Economic Affairs and Policy Planning (EAPP) section was established on 22 April 2001, tasked with carrying out economic analysis and empirical economic research, in order to provide policy advice to the Ministry, and the Government of Maldives. As such, the EAPP section facilitates the coordination of fiscal and monetary policy with a view to achieving macroeconomic stability.

The EAPP section:

  • is the disseminator of economic and fiscal data, both internally within MoFT, as well as to external parties;
  • is the Secretariat to the Macroeconomic Coordinating Committee;
  • coordinates the development and monitoring of the Medium Term Fiscal Framework;
  • analyses and provides policy advice internally on domestic and international economic issues;
  • is responsible for preparing the Quarterly Fiscal Review and other economic reports for internal use;
  • assists the Public Finance Section on the annual national budget preparations;
  • maintains the MoFT library and the Government Employee Management System.
