Minister Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq attends the inauguration of the Development of Hulhumalé Island Project

Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq, on Thursday, attended the inauguration of the Development of Hulhumalé Island Project. The project was inaugurated by the Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), H.E. Sultan bin Abdul Rahman Al-Marshad.

Speaking at the event, Minister Dr. Shafeeq said that as two countries with entirely Muslim populations, the common values are deeply rooted in the countries’ close Islamic, cultural and historical connections. Highlighting that the completion of the five bridges, and particularly the Four Channel Bridges – connecting Hulhumalé Phase 1 and Phase 2 is a landmark achievement and will provide a scenic path for seamless transportation and connectivity, Minister stated that this development symbolizes the close connection between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia.

Furthermore, the Minister expressed his sincere appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the CEO of the SFD for financing this project. He also extended his gratitude to the dedicated team at SFD for their close monitoring of the project, and their promptness of response in overcoming any and all challenges. He also commended the excellent collaboration between the SFD, the Housing Development Corporation and the Ministry of Finance.

Today’s inauguration ceremony was also attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of the Maldives H.E. Matrek Abdullah Al-Ajalin Aldosari and senior officials of the Ministry of Finance.
