The Government of India (GOI) is one of the largest bilateral partners of Maldives. India has assisted Maldives in several areas of development, which includes concessional budget support, credit for water and sewerage facilities in selected islands, and the construction of an international port and other infrastructure development. In 2011, GOI provided a USD 100 million Stand-by Credit facility to Maldives.
